Custom-Print Metals

Pieces cut out of my custom 24k-gold & fine-silver sheet for these earrings

One of my favorite jewelry-making techniques is creating custom-print metals. The process begins with placing 24k gold onto fine silver and fusing them together. Then the metal must be rolled to flatten, stretch, add tuxture (if that is what the design calls for), and so on.

My seraphinite earrings are an example of using this technique. I wanted to mimic the organic splashes of copper that was throughout the seraphinite cabochons, so I created a pattern of gold on the fine silver. After rolling and flattening, I was able to cut the ear-post piece and dangles from this one-of-a-kind sheet, which carried the design of the natural stone throughout the entire earring.

There is so much more that I hope to do with this technique, and I look forward to exploring each one with future pieces.
