Spur/ Rowel Necklace

Bespoke Necklace for Antique Rowel

Design for Antique Rowel

I was given the opportunity to create a bespoke necklace using a spur/rowel that was unearthed from a historic homestead from the 1800s, which has a rich history of outlaws, by the land owner. The idea for the design came from traditional Western spur-mount designs to honor whomever possibly used the rowel.

I took every precaution to preserve the rowel - including fabricating an inner mount that allows it to spin. To fasten the mount, I used prongs ensuring that there was very little pressing against the rusted surface; this will also allow the rowel to be removed if needed with very little pressure against the steel.

Details include a light scroll that is reminiscent of the aesthetic of the 1800s as well as engraved galloping horses around the spur mount. I am very proud of this piece and hope to make a few more in 2025.
